Caring for elderly parents over long distances is simplified and impartial with an onsite doula advocate who works exclusively with the family.

When parents’ health declines, adult children often discover that they are suddenly caring for both parents while struggling to coordinate  their services and care. This is a time when each family member is reminded of their own personal relationship to their parents. Doulas approach these connections with honor and respect.

Doulas are dedicated intermediaries who can assist aging parents or other loved ones directly with attention and compassion. We direct report to family members who are caring from far away.

By advocating for your parents and communicating with family, doulas learn about family members and teach them about their own unique gifts that they will bring to their parent’s end of life.

Doulas can help you to:

  • Evaluate what you can do from where you are.
  • Explore different living arrangements.
  • Identify potential community resources
  • Organize family members’ visits to maximize the benefits
  • Conduct family meetings
  • Keep an eye on facilities and care
  • Initiate and coordinate communication
  • Advocate for your parent
  • Help parents get their legal paperwork in order

End of Life Doulas, or EOLDs also called Death Doulas or Death Midwives are actively part of the Death Positive movement, a social and philosophical movement that encourages people to speak openly about death, dying, and everything in between. Death Positive seeks to:

  • eliminate the silence around death-related topics
  • decrease anxiety surrounding death
  • dismantle social marginalization at end of life.
