Hospice Decisions

Get help with your decisions about hospice care

Entering hospice is not a step through death’s door. This is a misunderstanding. So many families wish they had contacted hospice sooner! Hospice guides and supports people who are in the final act of living.

The goal of hospice it is to manage suffering in order to maximize the potential of each day for the patient and their family.

Be aware, not all hospices are created equal. For instance, some sub-contract nearly all of their services, while others have long histories and partnerships within your community.

Doulas can help identify a hospice that’s a good fit for you. In fact, most doulas are respite volunteers for a local hospice.

All the Doulas at Banner Endings can help you understand what hospice care is and isn’t. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

How to know when to call hospice or get palliative care:

  • The patient’s condition is deteriorating in spite of the treatment that is being given.
  • You look at the person and say to yourself, it’s unlikely this person will be here next year at this time.
  • Your family and loved ones are having difficulty coping with the seriousness of their loved one’s condition.
